Who We Are

The Catholic Parish Cemeteries Association of the Diocese of Pittsburgh

The Catholic Parish Cemeteries Association (CPCA) was established in 2016 by Bishop David Zubik to manage the 116 parish cemeteries in the Diocese of Pittsburgh. It is a Pennsylvania Non-profit corporation with an Internal Revenue designation of 501c3.

The CPCA was established to relieve the parishes with cemeteries from the sometimes demanding and complicated task of modern cemetery management, and to bring the cemeteries under one management entity. Because the CPCA is affiliated with the Catholic Diocese of Pittsburgh, the cemeteries remain under the watchful eye of the Church which ensures that the properties will be operated according to the laws and precepts of the Roman Catholic Church.

This is very important because what Catholics believe about death differs from that of other faiths. For us, Burying the Dead, is one of the Corporal Works of Mercy. Catholic cemeteries perform this corporal work for our deceased brothers and sisters in the faith believing that they await the resurrection of the body on the last day. Catholic cemeteries serve as the final resting places for those who have gone before us “marked with the sign of faith”, and as places of memorial and prayer for their families. They are sacred places too, specifically set aside by the Church for the burial of the faithful.
